Summary

Lets school districts reuse their 2022 data for 2023 impact aid applications because of problems caused by COVID-19.

What problem does this solve?

The COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for schools to collect the student information needed to apply for federal funding. This law solves the problem by letting schools use their student data from the previous year for their 2023 application.

What does this law do?

Flexibility for FY2023 Impact Aid applications
Allows local school districts applying for Impact Aid for fiscal year 2023 to choose to use student data from their fiscal year 2022 application.
Option for payments related to federal property
For payments under section 7002 of the ESEA, schools can choose to use either their 2022 application data or new data for 2023.
Option for payments for federally connected children
For payments under section 7003 of the ESEA, schools can use their 2022 student count data, but the funding will be calculated using 2023 rates and expenditures.

Who does this affect?

  • Local school districts
  • Students in federally-impacted areas

What is the real world impact?

Ensures stable funding for schools
Provides a safety net for school districts that had trouble collecting student data during the COVID-19 pandemic, preventing them from losing important federal money.

When does this start?

This law applies to Impact Aid funding applications for the 2023 fiscal year.
