Russia recognized two regions in Ukraine as independent, which threatens Ukraine's peace and goes against international agreements. This order creates economic punishments, like stopping U.S. investment and trade in those areas, to pressure Russia.

What does this order do?

Blocks property of certain persons
Freezes all property and money in the U.S. belonging to any person or group found to be operating in, leading, or supporting entities in the covered regions of Ukraine.
Prohibits new investment
Forbids any U.S. person from making new investments in the so-called DNR or LNR regions of Ukraine.
Bans trade with covered regions
Stops all imports from and exports to the covered regions. This includes goods, services, and technology from the U.S. or by a U.S. person.
Suspends entry into the United States
Prevents non-U.S. citizens who are determined to be involved in the targeted activities from entering the U.S. as immigrants or nonimmigrants.
Forbids helping others evade sanctions
Prohibits any U.S. person from approving, financing, or facilitating a transaction by a foreign person that would be illegal if a U.S. person did it.
Prohibits donations
Bans making or receiving donations of certain items, like food and medicine, to or from any person whose property is blocked by this order.
