Summary

Makes it a crime to make or send pill presses and other gear if it's known they will be used to create illegal drugs for import into the United States.

What problem does this solve?

Criminals outside the U.S. send equipment to make dangerous counterfeit pills that end up in our communities. This bill makes it a federal crime to knowingly provide this equipment for making illegal drugs that will be brought into the country.

What does this bill do?

Creates a new federal crime
Makes it illegal to make or send equipment like pill presses if you know it will be used to create illegal drugs that will be unlawfully brought into the U.S.
Sets new prison sentences
Establishes prison terms of up to 8 years for providing drug-making equipment, and up to 15 years for large-scale offenses involving over 100 machines.
Updates federal sentencing rules
Tells the United States Sentencing Commission to review and change its guidelines to match the new penalties created by this law.

Who does this affect?

  • Manufacturers and distributors of pill-making equipment
  • Drug traffickers
  • Federal law enforcement agencies

What is the real world impact?

Disrupts the illegal drug supply chain
Targets the tools used to create counterfeit pills, making it harder for traffickers to produce and import dangerous drugs like fentanyl.
Increases penalties for traffickers
Creates new criminal offenses and specific prison sentences for those who knowingly supply equipment for illegal drug production, giving prosecutors more tools to combat drug trafficking networks.

When does this start?

The rules in this bill would start as soon as it becomes a law.
